BitLet : The BitTorrent Applet

source: filenetworks.blogspot.com

Has the network administrator of your workplace, campus, college or institution banned bit torrent clients from being installed and run? If so, this post might bring good news for most of you.

BitLet.org hosts a java applet that acts as a bit torrent client. You just need to copy the .torrent file link (the link should directly link to the .torrent file, not to some html page where information about torrent is displayed) into the web page and press "Download Torrent" and the applet will do the rest. BitLet.org's settings page can be used to change port numbers and set max upload rate if needed. We almost forgot, this baby supports download resuming.

The only downside of this service is that it needs Java Runtime Environment (JRE) to run. If JRE is not installed, you wont be able to run the applet. You may be able to get the administrator to install JRE by saying you need it for "Educational purposes" or you need it to run "important stuff for an urgent project" (if he's a dumbass he'll fall for it). Anyway good luck with it.

List of Anti Virus Engines involved

This is what happened when we submitted Eicar test file to the service:

The only AV software that did not detect the test file was something called 'FileAdvisor'. Well, sucks to be them .

Tent cities spring up in LA

Tent cities are springing up in LA because people are losing their homes as a result of the mortgage crisis? How come this is on the BBC and not on FOX News or CNN?

Why Rockbox? An opensource replacement of MP3 player firmware

What is Rockbox? Why should I use it?

Rockbox is an open source firmware replacement for a growing number of digital audio players. It has been in development since 2001 and receives new features, tweaks and fixes every day to provide you with the best possible music listening experience. Rockbox aims to be considerably more functional and efficient than your device's stock firmware while remaining easy to use and customizable. We believe that you should never need to go through a series of menus for an action you perform frequently. We also believe that you should be able to configure almost anything about Rockbox you could want, pertaining to functionality. It is written by users, for users.

Another top priority of Rockbox is audio playback quality. Rockbox, for most models, includes a wider range of sound settings than that device's original firmware. A lot of work has been put into making Rockbox sound the best it can, and improvements are constantly being made. All models have access to a large number of plugins, including many games, applications, and graphical demos.

You can load different configurations quickly for different purposes (e.g. a large font for in your car, different sound settings for at home). You can even customize your While Playing screen to display only and exactly what you want to see when your music is playing. In addition, Rockbox features a wide range of languages, and all supported models also have the ability to talk to you - menus can be voiced and filenames spelled out or spoken.
